Hi, I'm Austen! I'm a philosopher working primarily on the philosophy of language and philosophy of artificial intelligence. I recently completed my PhD at Stanford, where I defended a dissertation on vagueness and the problems it poses for our use of formalism to understand language. Other projects of mine try to pull similar threads, especially as concerns the relationship between the formal innovations of LLMs and traditional problems in philosophy of language.

When I'm not doing philosophy I'm probably watching a baseball game, fiddling with a camera, or eating ice cream.
